Reflecting as Eclipse Psychology turns 4 years old…

Personally, I love any time that feels like the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. It always feels like an invitation to pause, reflect, and appreciate how far we’ve come.

I started Eclipse Psychology and opened its doors just days after moving to Calgary. I was born and raised in Edmonton, and my husband (then fiancé) and I made the decision to move somewhere that felt more aligned with who we were and the life we wanted to build.

I’ve always found nature incredibly grounding, rejuvenating, and peaceful—a feeling of coming home. We knew we wanted to be closer to the mountains because so many of the things we love most happen there: skiing, camping, hiking, and paddle boarding. The mountains have always been a place where I reconnect with myself, gain perspective, and find a sense of calm amidst life’s busyness.

In many ways, that feeling became part of the vision for Eclipse Psychology.

Having worked in other private practices, I knew the kind of space—and eventually the kind of team—I wanted to create. I wanted to build a practice that felt safe for people to show up as their most authentic selves, without judgment, and to have support while navigating life’s hardest moments. A space designed for connection, groundedness, and peace. A place that feels welcoming, calming, and restorative, much like how I feel when I’m in the mountains.

Over the past four years, Eclipse Psychology has grown and evolved in ways I could only have imagined when I first opened the doors. We’ve changed locations, refreshed our logo, expanded our team, and continued to refine who we are and how we serve our community.

One thing I’ve learned is that growth is rarely about becoming something completely different. More often, it’s about becoming more fully yourself. Each change we’ve made has been guided by the same values that inspired Eclipse Psychology from the beginning: creating meaningful connections, providing thoughtful care, and offering a space where people feel genuinely supported. While many things have evolved, those foundations have remained the same.

What began as a solo practice has grown into a team of five. This growth has been guided by intention every step of the way, with a focus on bringing together therapists who share the same commitment to compassion, authenticity, and thoughtful care.

Just as importantly, I wanted to create a workplace that feels collaborative, supportive, and welcoming. As therapists, we hold space for others every day, and I believe we also need spaces where we feel supported and held ourselves. Watching this team grow into what it is today has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. I am continually inspired by the care, dedication, and heart each therapist brings to their work and to our clients.

To all of the clients who have walked through our doors—whether it was for one session or one hundred—I know I speak for our entire team when I say how grateful we are for you and your story.

Choosing a psychologist is unlike choosing most other services. It requires trust, vulnerability, and courage. It is an honour to be invited into someone’s life during moments that are often deeply personal and meaningful. We never take that responsibility lightly.

Thank you for allowing us to witness your growth, your resilience, your challenges, and your victories. Thank you for trusting us with parts of your story. Being able to walk alongside you, for however long that chapter may be, is a privilege that we are grateful for every single day.

As I reflect on the past four years, I’m touched to see an idea that first began when I was in graduate school come to life and continue to evolve. What started as a vision has grown into something bigger than I could have built alone—a practice shaped by an incredible team, wonderful clients, and a supportive community.

Looking ahead, I’ll continue reflecting on how this practice and space can evolve in meaningful ways that further improve the care we offer. From the very beginning, my number one goal has been to provide the highest quality support possible, and that remains true today. I believe growth is an ongoing process, and I’m excited to continue learning, adapting, and finding new ways to better serve the people who trust us with their care.

Once again, thank you so much for being here. 🩵

 With gratitude in healing,

Laura Coulombe, Registered Psychologist & Founder of Eclipse Psychology
